THE DECLINE of the British aristocracy and their stately homes will be the focus of the next Ross Civic Society talk on Tuesday, April 9, at 7:30 PM at the Larruperz Centre.

Titled Abnormal Becomes the New Norm – Have We Been Here Before? The talk will explore the factors that led to the gradual erosion of aristocratic power and influence from 1870 onwards.

Unlike the revolutionary upheavals seen in France and Russia, Britain’s aristocracy faded over time, shaped by geopolitical change, international pressures, and security threats.

Mr Bowen, a voluntary guide at Worcester Cathedral with experience at Hanbury Hall, will discuss the destruction of a sixth of Britain’s great houses.

Meetings are usually held on the second Wednesday of the month at the Larruperz Centre.
