Dear Editor,
This Volunteers’ Week (June 1st - June 7th), I would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the incredible volunteers who give their time to support Acorns Children’s Hospice and our vital work in Ross-on-Wye – their fantastic contribution is invaluable.
At Acorns, volunteers are essential and we simply wouldn’t operate as a charity without them. We have more than 1,600 active volunteers, who work in all areas of the organisation; in our three hospices and the community, in fundraising and events and more than 1,000 who volunteer their time in our network of Acorns shops across the region, including George Place, Gloucester Road.
Over the next year we are hoping to increase the total number of hours completed by our shop volunteers by 12,000; with each extra hour crucial in helping us in our ability to raise the £10 million we need annually to continue.
This Volunteers Week I would appeal to anyone who would like a new challenge, the opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and at the same time make a real difference to local children and families, to get in touch.
By sharing their time, skills and passion, volunteers demonstrate the best of human kindness in action and we are immensely grateful for all they do.
Val Hammond,
Head of Retail,
