Any local residents who watched the ‘Teletubbies’ episode on Monday, March 20th, may have recognised the Saracens Head Inn, which briefly took a starring role in the programme.

In the episode, ‘Not Enough Room’ two children wait to cross the River Wye on the hand ferry.

The ferryman in the scene was played by Ross-on-Wye resident, Will Barradale Smith. In the clip, he tells the children that he does not have enough room on the ferry, but he says that he will come back for them.

The children wait by the river bank, wave to the other people on the ferry, and, sure enough, the ferryman returns to take them across.

Camera crews filmed the scene at the Saracens Head Inn in Symonds Yat last April, but the Ross Gazette was not allowed to name the programme until it aired.

The children and parents in the programme were played by local residents, and one of the barmen at the Saracens Head Inn, Joe White from Drybrook, also starred in the programme as an extra.

The episode is currently available on iPlayer.
