The long-awaited film set in occupied France from the classic novel and memoir by Irene Nemirovsky, Suite Française (15) will be shown at St Mary’s Hall on Tuesday, December 8th at 7pm.

In the first days of occupation, beautiful Lucille Angellier is trapped in a stifled existence with her controlling mother-in-law as they both await news of her husband: a prisoner of war. Parisian refugees start to pour into their small town, soon followed by a regiment of German soldiers who take up residence in the villagers’ own homes.

Lucille initially tries to ignore Bruno von Falk, the handsome and refined German officer staying with them. But soon, they are drawn together by a powerful and forbidden love. Kristin Scott Thomas and, the always excellent, Michelle Williams head the cast, with the ubiquitous Matthias Schoenaerts as von Falk. Great atmosphere and a vivid depiction of life under foreign occupation.
