An icon of her time, Marlene Dietrich, the German born actress was adored by fans world-wide for her sultry vocals and smouldering performances on the silver screen. In this brand new show her music is beautifully performed by the equally captivating Marina Laslo, whose rich and tender vocals will hypnotise audiences throughout the UK this May and June.
In this poignant year of remembrance Marina introduces Dietrich's music to a whole new generation, as well as evoking memories for fans that followed the actress' career. The show marks the 40th Anniversary since Dietrich's last European Tour and not only features a collection of classic tunes such as Falling in Love Again, Johnny, The Boys in the Back Room and Where Have All the Flowers Gone? but presents various archive material and letters from Marlene Dietrich's estate.
Inspired by a love of jazz, the glamour of the 1930s and the films of Marlene Dietrich, Marina is excited to bring a fresh perspective to the songs, in performing her tribute to Marlene and the music she made famous.
Dietrich Letters will showcase the best of young British jazz talent, under the direction of Rob Barron (Ronnie Scott's All Stars). The music is wonderfully nostalgic, and carries a distinct theatrical ambience.
Special thanks go to Marlene Dietrich Collection Berlin, Deutsche Kinemathek, for allowing the show to borrow some priceless memorabilia. The special effects and lighting design are created by Rob Halliday (award winning shows including My Fair Lady, Equus, Hello Dolly!). Director Karen Rabinowitz's credits include Hansel and Gretel (Stratford East), Goodbye Barcelona (Arcola), Follies, A Chorus Line, City of Angels, A Little Night Music, and Nine, (Royal Academy of Music), and choreography for The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, and The Way of the World (National Theatre), La Traviata and Masquerade (Opera North), A Midsummer Night's Dream (Regents Park), and The Wizard of Oz (Zurich Opera House).
