Bridstow Village Hall Committee recently said goodbye to Shirley Davies, who has stepped down after almost 40 years.
Shirley was one of the original trustees when the Lease and Trust Deed was signed in 1979, and was there when the hall opened in January 1981 during the worst ice and snow in years! Groups which have used the hall since it was opened, and are still going today include the Whist Club, Spinners Club (with wool), and a Dance Club.
Shirley has been an integral part of making decisions, fundraising and maintenance. During the last 10 years her management of the quarterly Community Lunches, including her legendary chicken and ham pie, and pavlovas have brought joy to many local residents.
It is rare to find someone who has served so selflessly, and the whole Committee would like to thank her publicly for all she has done. As a small gesture of thanks, a plant was presented by Clive Beddows, Chair of the Bridstow Village Hall Committee.
The next Community Lunch is on September 8th, and Shirley has been given a lifetime of free lunches at the hall, however everyone else will have to pay £8.
