The Ross and Monmouth Sea Cadets Annual Royal Naval Parade and Open Evening was an extra special event this year as their new unit was officially opened.

The Cadets, and their officers, were delighted to be joined by Commander King of HMS Monmouth, the Mayor of Monmouth, the Headteacher of John Kyrle High School, and representatives of the Lions Club.

Following the raising of the Union Jack on the mast in the parade grounds of the new unit in Homs Road car park, the Chaplin, Colin Leggate said prayers. He thanked the guests for attending as well as all those members of staff, uniformed and non-uniformed for the work they had put into moving the unit into its new home.

Unit President, Commodore Toby Elliot RN OBE DL said how immensely proud he is of the unit. He thanked everyone who had made the move to their new home possible, especially their benefactor, Clive Richards.

Mr Richards said he had been happy to help with what was originally going to be a small short term loan. He said this changed somewhat after Welsh Water became involved. He added that he is proud to be able to make a contribution to such an amazing achievement.

The Mayor of Ross was unable to attend this event as the Councillors had a conflicting appointment, however the Cadets are looking forward to welcoming him for a look around their new unit home on July 12th.
