AN ICONIC TV monster has taken up residence in a Forest of Dean garage.

Kevlar the Dalek was hand-built by Kevin O’Flynn at his home in Bream, between Coleford and Lydney.

The creation is a faithful reproduction of the Daleks from their first foray on the big screen when they starred opposite Peter Cushing as the time travelling Doctor in the 1965 film Dr Who and the Daleks.

Mr O’Flynn says he built Kevlar as a challenge when he got “bored” after retirement.

He started work on the creation last October using plans downloaded from the internet.

He says there are still a few refinements to complete the final creation.

During the build he got help and inspiration from Facebook Dalek building groups – and he has set one up of his own called Dalek Build Forest of Dean.

He said: “After I retired I got a bit bored and was looking for something to do.

“I found Dalek building groups on Facebook and thought I would have a go.

“It would be great if others in the area built their own and we could show them for charity.”
