A 97-year-old Ross woman, Eve Holland, cut the ribbon to formally open the new office of The Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) Ross Area Transport on Friday, July 4th.

Mrs Holland, who has been a long time user of the Service, was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Service Coordinator, Sheila Hatherall.

Watching the ceremony was Sarah Bray, Operations Manager of the RVS, who was responsible for orchestrating the move; volunteer drivers and office staff, and members of the public who were interested in what the service had to offer them.

After the formalities were over, everyone enjoyed tea, coffee and cakes in the new office.

At the event, Mrs Bray, who has worked long and hard to secure the move, was thanked by Mrs Hatherall for all her hard work.

Mrs Bray will move to another area with the RVS at the end of the month. She will be missed by everyone at the Ross Office.

Mrs Hatherall said: “This move represents a new start for the service. We seem to have been in limbo waiting for things to be settled. Now we can concentrate on finding new volunteer drivers to take older people and the vulnerable to wherever they need to go.

“Anyone out there who has a few hours a week to spare to help someone in their community, we want you! You can ring me on 01989 765595 or come in and have a chat. The office is open between 9.30am and 12.30pm every week day.”

The new office is at 46E Broad Street with access from Sainsbury’s car park.
