A Remembrance Service for Private Timothy Jenkins, who died in the Falklands War on June 12th 1982, took place at Tudorville Cemetery this morning (Sunday, June 4th).

Tim, who was known as ‘Timmy’ by his friends and family, was serving in the third Battalion of the Parachute Regiment (2 Platoon A Company) when he lost his life, at the age of 19.

The service for Tim was organised by the Ross-on-Wye branch of the Royal British Legion as a part of their commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the Falklands War.

There will be an article, paying tribute to Tim, featured in next week's edition of the Ross Gazette.

The service was led by Reverend Colin Leggate. Tributes to Tim were also read by his friends: Trevor Bradshaw, a friend and colleague in the 3rd Paras, and Russell Millward, a school friend.

Wreaths were laid by Tim’s family, along with Patrick Darling DL, representing The Countess Darnley, the Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire; Reverend Lady Lisvane, the High Sherriff of Herefordshire; Councillor Nigel Gibbs, the Mayor of Ross-on-Wye; the Royal British Legion; the 3rd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment; and members of the local community.

An exhibition about the Falklands War will be on display in the Ross-on-Wye Market Place from 12pm.

At 2.30pm, a Grand Parade will take place around the centre of Ross-on-Wye. It will go from Cantilupe Road, along Gloucester Road to High Street. Attendees will then assemble in the Market Place, where there will then be a short service.
