Halo Leisure celebrated the outstanding work of their hard working staff this week at the first inaugural Staff Awards.

Teams from Halo’s 20 sites based across Herefordshire, Bridgend County and Bridgnorth came together to recognise the contribution the staff make to the success of the organisation and their contribution to Halo’s mission of “Creating Healthier Communities”.

Chloe Heggie picked up the Volunteer of the Year Award for the progress she has made since starting at Ross Swimming Pool. Chloe has grown in confidence and is no longer the shy person she was when she joined Halo. Chloe works alongside swimming instructors providing support for children on the learn to swim programme.

Matt Smith won the Manager of the Year Award for his superb work running seven of the Halo centres across the County. Under Matt’s leadership, his centres are helping to engage with local communities and growing participation in physical activity.

Steve Harris, fitness instructor at Lady Hawkins’ Community Leisure Centre picked up the Customer Choice Award. Halo only took on the running of the leisure facilities based at Lady Hawkins’ School at the start of the year, but in this time Steve has demonstrated the amazing relationship he has with customers and goes out of his way to make sure existing members and new joiners get the most out of their workouts.

The outstanding Achievement Award went to Kris Saunders-Stowe. Kris delivers a range of group exercise classes including his WheelyGood Fitness aimed at helping people who are wheelchair users or those with limited mobility to get more physically active through a seated low impact session. Kris also does a huge amount of work outside of Halo raising money for numerous charities.

‘Service to Leisure Industry Awards’ were presented to the employees who have been working in the sector for 25 years plus. “We’ve invested millions upgrading Halo Leisure Centres, but it is the people we employ who make these places work and who have helped us bring in people, of all ages and abilities, and helped them get more active more often. They’ve shown real commitment to our mission to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities where we are based,” says Halo’s CEO Scott Rolfe. “We couldn’t be more proud.”
