A young man from Ross-on-Wye is staging a spectacular musical show at The Courtyard theatre in Hereford, to raise funds for the hospice that cared for his father.

24-year-old Jack Campey told the Gazette that this will be the second show that he has arranged to raise funds for St Michael’s Hospice, where his father, Andrew Campey, was cared for so brilliantly before his death in September 2015.

Jack told the Ross Gazette: “I am passionate about music, especially the music from the Golden Age of Hollywood and Broadway and have brought together some of the most talented musicians and singers in the area for our production of ‘A Night on Broadway’.”

He added: “Last year’s show was a sell-out success, raising over £2,500 for the Hospice and we hope to raise as much, hopefully more, this year with Hereford’s support.”

Jack graduated from the University of Exeter in 2014, and while he has always had a passion for music, it was during his time at university when he found himself heavily involved with music. Here he conducted two musicals for the Footlights Society, West Side Story and Into the Woods, for the former, he was awarded the music society award for Best Conductor – 2014.

During his studies he was also Musical Director the university Big Band, Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra and Brass Ensemble. He also found the time to continue his passion for playing trumpet, percussion and piano.

Now finished at university, Jack has continued to work on his ambition to become an orchestrator and conductor for Broadway and the silver screen. He regularly arranges pieces for local ensembles. He continues to be in demand as an instrumentalist and conductor in the local area, notably Assistant Conductor of The Film Orchestra, as well as various guest conductor roles.

His forthcoming show at The Courtyard theatre in Hereford will feature a hand picked 35+ orchestra and soloists. Celebrating Broadway and Hollywood’s finest ever tunesmiths, the concert will take attendees on a musical journey from the Golden Age of musicals, right to the very present. Songs from timeless shows such as: West Side Story, South Pacific, Les Misérables, Chicago, Wicked and many more, all presented live on stage in their original Broadway and Hollywood orchestrations. A must-see for any musical theatre fan!

All profits from the concert will go to St Michael’s Hospice.
