Alan Jordan who has been a member of the Design and Technology department at John Kyrle High School since September 2001, is preparing for a new adventure in Kenya, Africa.
He and his wife, Pauline, have volunteered to work, with the Christian charity and mission organisation Africa Inland mission, in northern Kenya at a town called Marsabit.
Alan will be establishing a new school for trainee pastors of the local Churches and also teaching pastors who, at present, do not have any facilities to study and teach the Bible. Alan will also organise the refurbishment of a run down hall so that new facilities for youth sporting events can be achieved.
Mrs Jordan will help to teach Christian religious education to children in the local schools and instruct ladies in the Church to deliver Biblical stories to the children at Sunday services.
Alan and Pauline’s journey into cross-cultural mission started in 1993, when they believed God would have Alan leave his job as an RAF aircraft engineer and volunteer his experience to help others somewhere on the mission field.
They served with AIM, (Africa Inland Mission) for two years, working with AIM Air in Nairobi. When they returned to the UK, Alan finished his Theology degree at Bible college and Pauline ran the family home, but the desire to return to serve in Africa remained.
In January 2018, depending on financial support, they will travel to Marsabit in northern Kenya to be part of a larger team working alongside the Africa Inland Church (AIC).
Marsabit is 550km north of Nairobi, and is the political, social and economic centre of northern Kenya. It is also home to eight distinct people groups, including the Samburu, Gabbra, Borana and Somali peoples.
The Jordans will live locally within Marsabit, spending the first few months setting up home and building relationships with the local Bishop and church leaders. Alan will work to establish a Bible training centre for the AIC, to support new and existing church leaders, helping them grow in their knowledge of the Bible and training them in their pastoral ministry. Pauline will be working in children’s ministry in the local church, teaching children Bible stories and seeking to disciple them as they grow in Christ. She will also work with the church to help train children’s workers for the future.
