Two weeks ago, the Ross Gazette reported that a Ross Town Councillor, Chris Bartrum, had been campaigning since October last year to have a pothole repaired.
In July, Cllr Bartrum was told by Balfour Beatty that the pothole was not considered a hazard, and it would not be repaired. Cllr Bartrum was frustrated at this response, and contacted the Ross Gazette.
We published the story in the paper and online, and, on social media pages, many readers told us that they felt the pothole was a hazard.
Rachel Woods commented: “It’s bad enough driving over this in a vehicle but as a cyclist it throws you completely off balance and could cause a nasty accident.”
Lara Waller wrote: “As a pedestrian I have tripped twice this week in that spot just crossing the road!”
Cllr Bartrum said that a couple of local residents have written to him directly, to raise their concerns about that particular pothole, and he added that a local trader, Andy Hiley, believes a vehicle was damaged quite badly when the driver went over the pothole.
Andy told the Gazette that he was in his shop, Lot 47, when he heard a bang and a tinkle, after a vehicle travelled over the pothole. He went out into the street, and he found a part of a metal coil (picture 1), that he believes fell off the vehicle and he later noticed that another piece of metal has been embedded into the road (picture 2).
Cllr Bartrum said that he will continue trying to lobby Herefordshire Council for the pothole to be repaired.
