Local artist Mary Deaville is thrilled with the results of her appeal for local residents to create a Flanders Field of poppies. The display has been in the Dogs Trust window for a few days and the window on Gloucester Road was completed late Saturday evening.

Mary Deaville told the Ross Gazette:?“It was lovely as my daughter and I were setting up, people were looking in the window and pointing out the Poppy they had made.”

She said she is very grateful to Iris Price, who loaned the military hats, Mary Sinclair Powell, Vincent and Maureen for the loan of flags and bunting and everyone who painted or made a poppy for the display.

Mary added that the schools involved, St Josephs RC and Kings Caple had told her that the children had a lovely time taking part but found it emotional and they really put thought into their paintings.

She said:?“I hope the community enjoy the Flanders Fields displays in both shops and it serves as a fitting tribute for the 100th Anniversary of the end of the WW1 and as remembrance of all those who bravely fought for their country in subsequent wars.”
