The Ross Community Litter Clean Up Crew may pride themselves on having a family feel to their events, but for Mandy Morgan litter-picking has become a real family affair.
Mandy is one of three generations of the same family who contribute to the Litter Crew’s activities and events such as their organised litter picks on Sunday mornings.
Mandy helps with the litter-picking alongside mother Beryl, and daughters Beth, Maddie and Annabelle.
Speaking to the Gazette, Mandy said: “As a family we are all frequent litter-pickers, and unfortunately we see a lot of litter around our home in Tudorville. We have dogs so usually when out dog-walking we will take out our litter-pickers and fill up our purple bags which we then drop-off at one of the community drop-off points.”
The Ross Community Litter Clean Up Crew has become a popular community group in Ross-on-Wye and Mandy believes the group has done a great deal to help improve the area.
“We joined the group about a year ago”, said Mandy. “We noticed they were doing a litter pick-up in Tudorville and thought to go along as a family and now we have been to every event since.
‘‘The group are kind enough to provide you with litter-pickers as well which is important when attracting more volunteers.”
Mandy is particularly pleased that her daughters have joined in her efforts to help clean up her local area. “The girls really enjoy it, especially the community litter-picks which are also quite social events, and I believe it is really important to teach the next generation about the importance of protecting our environment through clearing up after yourselves.”
Mandy - who runs the admin on the RCLCUC Facebook page - has seen a rise in numbers recently within the group and hopes that this can be a sign of things to come.
“Since Christmas I have noticed an increase in numbers, with more volunteers wanting to get involved whether that be as part of the group or doing their own litter-picking when they are able to.
“As a result I’ve noticed a lot more purple bags left at community drop-off points which is really nice to see as it shows that people are doing their bit to keep the area clean and tidy for others.”
