THE Ross Action Committee is seeking to recruit volunteers to drive its minibus to ferry around the elderly, blind, and disabled people in the district.

The plea for more drivers and for companions to help those travelling on the bus was made by the committee’s president, Rosemary Rigby, who has been involved in the organisation since it was set up in 1966.

Rosemary explained that the minibus provides an outlet for people to visit local attractions including vising garden centres for tea and cake and the Forest of Dean as a way of preventing isolation and loneliness.

The minibus is affectionately referred to locally as the ‘Action Bus’,

Rosemary explained that finding enough minibus drivers to support the cause had become challenging and encouraged potential volunteers to step forward and contribute their time and skills.

She also said that the committee also had difficulty in securing the services of people to become companions to assist on journeys in the minibus.

Anyone able to volunteer for the Ross Action Committee is urged to get in touch with Rosemary Rigby on 01981 540477.

● The Annual General Meeting of the Ross Action Committee is being held at the Pilgrim Hotel, Ross Road, Much Birch on October 17, at 7.30pm.
