This postcard was brought in to the Ross Gazette by Marion Ryder. It was initially given to her brother years ago, and is a painting of Ross-on-Wye. The postcard dates 1853-1934 and is by A.R Quinton, titled ‘Ross-on-Wye - From the Meadows.’
From a young age, Marion and her brother walked the fields shown in this postcard and swam at the boat house, but they have no recollection of the house on the right in the painting. They also cannot tell which part of the river this postcard was painted from.
Does anyone know anything about this postcard; was it painted from the area on the riverbank which now houses the Hope and Anchor? Did the cottage actually exist and if so, who lived there?
