Herefordshire Council has announced the death of respected Councillor Peter Jinman OBE, who passed away on 25th May. An influential figure within the council and the wider community, Councillor Jinman’s death has stirred deep sorrow among all who knew him.
First elected in September 2017, Councillor Jinman faithfully served Golden Valley South, establishing a reputation as an energetic council member. Until May 2023, he played a significant role as a Cabinet support member and Vice-Chairperson of the health, care, and wellbeing scrutiny committee.
Councillor Jinman wasn’t just a local councillor; his talents extended to the realm of veterinary practice. He held significant positions such as the President of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and Chairman of the Farm Animal Welfare Committee at DEFRA. His profound knowledge in these areas shaped his impactful contributions to the council, benefiting countless individuals.
Councillor Jonathan Lester, Leader of Herefordshire Council said: “On behalf of all Herefordshire councillors, I want to express our sadness at the death of Councillor Peter Jinman. Cllr Jinman was deeply respected by everyone at the council and in his own ward where he was a veterinary practitioner. He was also a past President of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and was Chairman of the Farm Animal Welfare Committee at DEFRA. He was profoundly knowledgeable and applied this with true dedication to his work and contribution to the Council, which benefited so many people. He will be sorely missed by all. Our deepest sympathies are with his family, friends and colleagues”.
As a mark of respect, flags at Herefordshire Council buildings have been lowered to half-mast, and they will remain so until the day of the funeral.
