Parking charges have finally been scrapped at the Morrisons’ car park in Ross-on-Wye just over a month after they were introduced and three weeks after Morrisons informed the Ross Gazette that fines were being suspended due to the lack of notice.

New signs have now appeared at the car park, these do not ask customers to purchase a ticket but remind drivers that cameras will record licence number plates as vehicles enter the car park and then issue fines if the vehicle stays longer then 2.5 hours before 5pm.

A Morrisons spokesperson told the Ross Gazette: “We’ve listened to our customers - and scrapped the need to buy a parking ticket when using the car park.

“However the 2.5 hour limit still applies and a Parking Eye system will monitor vehicles entering and exiting the car park.

“Anyone who may need more time to shop should just pop to our Customer Services desk and let our colleagues know.”

This follows the charging system being suspended just weeks after it was introduced on May 21st, 2018.

At that time motorists were asked to purchase a ticket which would be refunded in store against a £5 minimum spend.

Customers complained, many by letters to the Gazette, not about the introduction of charges which many people who contacted the Gazette thought would free up parking spaces for genuine customers, but the lack of notice and explanation given to customers.
