Many readers have contacted the Ross Gazette following the introduction of parking charges at Morrisons supermarket.

Most customers have been accepting of the need for Morrisons to introduce charges as the car park can get very full at busy times. However customers have been annoyed that charges were introduced without any prior notice and the restrictions, particularly for those entering the car park to use the fuel station, were not clear.

The Ross Gazette has continued to follow up their mixed messages, and concerns about the lack of notice or publicity regarding the new parking charges at Morrisons car park, and we have made several requests for clarification to both Morrisons and Parking Eye, which operates the car park.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “The changes went live at midnight on May 21st, 2018, and the 2 ½ hours parking begins when you enter the car park.

“Parking fees can be refunded in store against a £5 minimum spend. However we do allow a 30 mins grace period - for people who wish to visit our petrol station and fill up, or for customers to make small purchases in our store.”

A ParkingEye spokesperson, said: “Information on how long you can stay is displayed on signs in the car park. We encourage people who have received a parking charge to appeal if they think there are mitigating circumstances, and instructions about how to do this are detailed on all communications and on our website.”

On Thursday, May 31st a spokesperson for Morrisons confirmed that no advance warning was given at the store. She said: "And as a result, parking fines for customers - issued within the first two weeks of the new system being introduced - will be cancelled.

"People who have been affected should call the telephone number on their Parking Eye fine to get it cancelled."
