Mulled wine and mince pies will be served when Monmouth Choral Society returns to St Nicholas Church, Trellech, for its Christmas concert at 7.30pm on Saturday, December 9th.
The choir, conducted by Steven Kings, will be joined by Charlotte Poulter, harp, Dan Robson, bass-baritone and David Bednall, accompanist, and there will be contributions from Trellech School Choir.
The main item on the programme is Fantasia on Christmas Carols for baritone solo and choir by Ralph Vaughn Williams.
This beautiful setting of four old English folk carols from Herefordshire, Somerset and Sussex, collected by Vaughn Williams and his friend Cecil Sharp, with fragments from other well-known carol tunes, was first performed at Hereford Cathedral as part of the 1912 Three Choirs Festival.
Monmouth Choral Society will also sing a selection of Christmas music by composers including Britten, Mathias and Rutter, and there will be opportunities for all to join in singing well-known carols.
During the evening there will be a raffle and a bar serving mulled wine, soft drinks and mince pies, to raise funds for the Friends of Trellech Church and Churchyard.
Tickets are £10 (under 18s free) and are available from the Monmouth Choral Society box office on 01594 531496 or you can email [email protected], visit the Village Store in Trellech and on the door.
