Measles is on the increase again worldwide. In England and Wales from January to October 2011 there were just under 1000 measles cases. Measles, mumps and rubella (German measles) are highly infectious illnesses that can have serious complications including meningitis, encephalitis and deafness. Rubella can also lead to complications in pregnancy that can affect the unborn child or may cause a miscarriage. It saddens me that in Ross we fail to meet the childhood immunisation task of 90% of children completing their vaccination schedule. As an experienced practice nurse I believe that my role vaccinating children probably has the greatest impact on promoting health. Check your child's red book or ask your surgery to check.
It is never too late to bring your child in for these important vaccinations.
