The Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, Cllr Harry Bramer, and his consort, Marie Ward, were invited to attend the Acorns Children’s Hospice Charity 5k and 10k fun runs on Sunday, September 2nd.
Held on the Ross Rowing Club field, this was the eighth year of the event, sponsored by Walford Timber.
Mayor Bramer said:?“Support was strong with a wonderful family atmosphere. Competitors were as young as preschool to grandparents. And there was even a competition section for running with the family dog!”
Competitors came from all over the county and beyond, and the proceeds raised this year will add to the £22,000 raised in the previous eight years for Acorns Children’s Hospice.
Mayor Bramer added:?“A great event for a most worthy cause.”Almost £3,000 was raised for Acorns Children’s Charity and very good times were recorded in all races. Alex Rawlings was first in the 5K in 17 minutes 58 seconds; Rob Nicholas first in the 10K in 38.09, and Leanne Meek was 1st lady in the 10K in 48.20.There was a tremendous range of ages in the 5K, from 6 year old James Robinson to 71 year old Graham Nicolson, and the second runner home was 10 year old Henry White.Next year's event will take place on Sunday, September 1st.
