Maddie Morgan, who is 12 years old and from Ross-on-Wye, is having her hair cut and donating it to the Little Princess Trust in memory of her Aunty, Wendy Zeeman, who lost her battle to cancer nearly 16 years ago.
As a family the Morgans decided they would try and raise some money for the charity alongside her haircut, through sponsors and a raffle to be held on the day.
Maddie, who attends John Kyrle High School, said: “I’m very excited because I know I’m doing it in memory of my Aunty who I never got to meet and it is a great charity to help other children.”
Maddie was also the Ross Carnival Princess two years ago and the family are hoping to auction two of her dresses to raise even more money for the Little Princess Trust.
The haircut is taking place at Lorraine’s Hairdressers on Thursday, July 26th at 3pm, and Maddie has already had an amazing response from local businesses, with lots of raffle prizes donated to the cause.
Maddie’s Mum, Mandy, said:?“I’m feeling completely overwhelmed at the amount of support from local businesses donating prizes. I’ve spent my days anxiously walking into shops explaining what Maddie is doing and asking for their support and so many businesses have given without a second thought, but I also completely understand those who are unable to.”
Mandy added: “And at the end of last week the event took a big twist. I had previously discussed with Lorraine about supporting Maddie by having my hair shaved off too, if she could double her £500 target.
“The decision has been made and if Maddie can raise £1,000 then I will then indeed have my hair shaved off.
“So far we have raised over £550. Maddie is getting excited, I’m getting nervous!”
