The Longhope Runners dressed in festive outfits and ran the mile long village of Longhope, completing charity work on route.

On Monday, December 4, the group ran door to door collecting bags of food and toiletries from houses in Longhope for The Lords Larder food bank based in Newent.

They returned to Longhope Church with the goodies collected and were welcomed by the “Friends” Committee with warm blankets, a mug of warm mulled wine and a hot dog.

Despite the rain, the group ran with their head torches and danced around the puddles with smiles on their face.

This event, known as the ‘Hamper Scamper’ has been running for the past three years, increasing in size each year.

The Friends of Longhope Church were “overwhelmed by the generosity of the entire village”.

They said: “The generosity of the whole village is totally overwhelming and this will certainly go some way to help make life a little easier for many in need this Christmas.

The Lords Larder Food Bank services Newent and the surrounding areas, provide short-term access to basic food and toiletries.
