A 17TH century Grade II-listed country pub a few miles from Ross has been put on the market for nearly half a million pounds.

Woolhope village pub The Butcher's Arms is described as a "renowned black and white country inn" by estate agents Sidney Phillips, who are marketing the property at £475,000.

Listed in 1985 owing to its architectural interest, it was originally a beer shop and butchers – hence the name – that were knocked through in Victorian times.

It includes character features such as exposed beams and fireplaces, plus lounge and restaurant and a private dining room, with "outstanding" gardens.

It also has three-bedrooms and planning permission for an extension for more letting rooms.
