LOCAL residents and commuters were left dealing with long diversions last week as a burst water main on the B4229 meant Kerne Bridge was closed, in both directions, between Tuesday and Friday.

Welsh Water sent a team to investigate the problem and water supplies were turned off during Wednesday night, and returned by the early hours of Thursday morning. Text messages were sent to notify affected customers.

However, a lack of signs notifying motorists and residents of the closure, and the reason for it, led to some confusion and long diversions.

Mary Rowberry, from Goodrich, said: "I had a round trip to the doctors of 23 miles or so. People can't get to Bishopswood stores or the doctors in Ross if they don't use the A40.
