A selection of students from JKHS Sixth Form recently took part in interviewing and filming training conducted by MediaSHYPP and Herefordshire Lore as part of the Ross Gazette Archive Project.

The 10 students learnt about a wide variety of filming techniques, as well as questions to ask in an interviewing and the skills to use to make the interviewee feel at ease. These skills will help the students when they visit Ross Court Residential Home in a few weeks to conduct interviews with some of the residents about their memories of Ross-on-Wye. These interviews will then be used in an exhibition next year and a community film which will be screened at the end of the project.

The Ross Gazette Archive Project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and has been made possible by money raised by National Lottery players.

The project will also include digitising the entire newspaper archive and photographs that have appeared in the paper and making it available for the public to access free on the Herefordshire History website. The project is ongoing, but you can view the newspapers and photographs which have currently been digitised by visiting www.herefordshirehistory.org.uk
