THE life story of John Kyrle, the Man of Ross-on-Wye, is being told in a musical as part of the commemorations to mark 300 years since his death.

However, both scheduled performances of JK the Musical will now be staged at John Kyrle High School on Friday and Saturday, September 18 / 19 at 7.30pm.

The play is written and composed by Sammy Martin and performed by drama students from John Kyrle High School and primary school pupils from across the district.

The actors will be supported by the high school’s orchestra who will be providing the musical backdrop to the story.

The story of John Kyrle's life runs from the various waves of the bubonic plague affecting England during the late 16th Century, his birth in 1637, and the dramatic events of 17th century in Ross as they unfolded. It also focuses on his charity work and help with the poor to acquire their own homes and was happiest when he was in the company of local farmers and labourers and with a cider in his hand.

This is an exciting opportunity to find out more about the philanthropist John Kyrle who undertook many wonderful things to improve Ross town and the life of its people.
