Jacqui Musto, a local woman took part in Macmillan’s Brave The Shave on Friday, August 19th. Jacqui was joined by her family, who came along to support her as she opted for a ‘number one’ buzzcut at Lorraine’s Hairdressers in Ross-on-Wye.
Jacqui told the Ross Gazette that Macmillan is a charity very close to her heart, both of her parents died from cancer a couple of years ago, and Jacqui herself also has a rare form of the illness. She has Multiple Myeloma, a cancer arising from plasma cells, a type of white blood cell, which is made in the bone marrow.
Jacqui explained that she is at the lower end of the cancer spectrum for the time being. While cancer can be an extremely intimidating diagnosis to be given, her attitude is to get on with things, but she said Macmillan helped her to come to terms with her illness. She added that the charity also helped her a great deal after the death of her parents.
Jacqui set herself a fundraising target of £250. On the day of the shave, she told the Ross Gazette that she had met her target. After she had her hair shaved, the team at Lorraine’s Hairdressers gave her a donation, which bumped her total up to £300.
Jacqui is still accepting donations in sponsorship for her shave.
