The Ross-on-Wye Town Carnival will take place today (Saturday, August 5th).
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Ross Town Carnival, and thousands of people - local residents and visitors - are expected to line the streets of Ross to witness the event.
Since 1977, the Ross Town Carnival has seen many colourful floats, bands, walking groups, charities, vintage vehicles and quirky characters join in the fun.
This year will be no exception, and this year, as a special birthday treat, all the Council run car parks will be free for the whole day. This has been made possible by kind donations from local businesses, who the Carnival Committee are very grateful to.
Timetable
From 12 noon, those taking part in the carnival procession will assemble at the Ashburton Industrial Estate. At 12.30pm, the judging of the floats will commence, and at 1pm, the procession will begin.
At 2pm, the procession will arrive at the Carnival Field at the Ropewalk, where there will be stalls, funfair rides and live music.
At 4pm, the Ross Lions Duck Race will take place. This is when hundreds of plastic ducks will be let loose on the River Wye, near to the Hope and Anchor, and the first three ducks past the finishing line will win a prize; first place - £150; second place - £100; third place - £50. Ducks cost £1 each and will be available to purchase by the riverside. Proceeds go to Ross Lions Club.
