Local business owners Chris and Kay Readers are delighted that their sponsorship has helped a young disabled athlete, who helps at their canoe hire company at weekends, win two medals at the Nationwide Junior Athletics Championships.
Glenn Scott, age 17, was born with a condition called Talipes, or club feet. His mum, told the Ross Gazette that his feet were actually on back to front. He had to have a lot of operations as a youngster but he loved sport and was spotted at a Team GB paralympics event and joined their development programme. He has participated in and won the regional championships, the national championships and he even won a silver medal at an inter IPC event for mixed athletes.
Recently Glenn was selected for the national championships and he mentioned to Chris that he would like to stay in the athletes village, which would cost £120. Immediatly Chris agreed to sponsor him and was delighted when Glenn returned to show him the medals he won for the 100m and 200m events.
Glenn's parents have a permanent pitch at the Symonds Yat Caravan Park and after work and school is over on a Friday they drive down to spend the weekend there. The family live in Bromsgrove and Glenn attends Kingsley College, Redditch, where has has just won the Exceptional Sports Performance Award.
Glen started helping out at the canoe hire company when he was 13 and for the last four seasons he has worked with Chris every weekend.
Now Glenn is preparing for the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystle Palace.
