A SCHOOL library that flooded twice has given their Parents, Teachers and Friends Association, (PTFA) a chance to bring the facility up-to-date.
Speaking to some of the group at the Monmouthshire Show, the Ross Gazette has learnt that they are trying to refit the library following a flood to make it more of a communal area with different work spaces and need to raise £5,000 to complete their vision.
They were at the show last weekend to promote and request generous support for the project that will significantly enhance their educational environments and benefit the entire school community, following the flood damage before the holidays.
Felicity Howe, Chair of the PTFA told us that their current library facilities are outdated and damaged following the two internal floods.
“We envision a refreshed, modern library space that fosters a love for reading and learning, equipped with modern shelving, a diverse collection of books, and comfortable study areas that accommodate collaborative and individual learning.
The group says that a new library will provide numerous benefits, including: Enhanced Learning Opportunities: Access to a wide range of resources, including books and research materials, will support our curriculum and encourage independent learning.
A well-displayed library can improve literacy rates and overall academic achievement by fostering a love of reading and critical thinking skills.
The library can serve as a hub for community events, workshops, and family reading nights, strengthening the bond between the school and the local community.
To make this vision a reality, they estimate the budget of £5,000 will cover: books and materials for new books, digital resources, and educational materials as well as furniture and equipment for shelving, seating, tables, and any relevant technology equipment.
They hope the renovation costs will allow for any necessary construction or renovation work to create the vision of a welcoming and functional library space.
They hope that the PTFA will consider allocating funds to support this important initiative.
“Your contribution will directly impact our students’ education and well-being, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations, “ added Felicity.
