THE sports hall at John Kyrle High School was the destination for model railway enthusiasts as the Rotary Club of Ross on Wye held its annual show.

The two-day show featured some 20 layouts created by clubs from the Forest of Dean and across the country. This was the nineth staging of the model railway exhibition.

This year there were several new exhibits.  Alongside the displays, one of which enabled young children to ‘drive’ the trains around the track, were numerous traders selling new and second-hand rolling stock along with books and magazines and other memorabilia.

Most of the layouts depicted an era that still saw steam trains running, between the 1940s and the early 1970s.

One of the outstanding layouts was that of Dennis Bailey whose fictional dock layout Lizerpool took five years to complete. It not only featured steam trains, but moving vans and workmen digging holes and winch revolving along with an array of buildings and warehouses.

Even the sports hall canteen was renamed as the Buffet Car for the exhibition.

Funds raised from the event will be donated to local charities by the Rotary Club of Ross.
