Last year’s Mayor of Ross, Harry Bramer, raised just over £24,000 in aid of his charity, Papyrus, Prevention of Young Suicide, during his year as Mayor.
He told members of Ross Town Council at the meeting on Monday, May 13th that the residents of Ross had been very generous and he was delighted at the total that had been raised.
Mr Bramer held several events during his year, starting with a Cream Tea at his home, Dadnor Court. In addition to bag packing and collections, there had been raffles, a Mayor’s Challenge for Rowing and talks.
The final event took place at Morrison’s store in Ross on April 27th when he sold tickets to raffle a selection of items mainly donated by local stores.
The raffle raised over £750 for the charity, which seeks to prevent young suicides, and the winner, Mr Phillip Lott of Llangarron, was presented with the hamper by the Mayor and the Mayoress the next day. Mr Bramer said: “I should like to thank all those who purchased tickets for this, but more than that would thank every one in Ross for supporting Papyrus so generously during my mayoral year – the total sum achieved is significant and will play a large part in funding the Hope-Line giving advice and counselling to those with depression and thoughts of suicide. I cannot fail to be amazed at the generosity of the people of Ross-on-Wye.’’
The Mayor and his consort, Marie Ward, were also helped by Captain Jack Sparrow lookalike, Mike Davies.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
