Dear Editor,
Huge thanks to the excellent work undertaken locally by the Royal British Legion (RBL) for the Remembrance Day event at the Prospect on Remembrance Sunday and the Service at St Mary’s Church.
It involved the RBL with the local St Mary’s Church Team agreeing and implementing a very detailed programme, which was very well supported, excellently arranged and delivered. Huge thanks also to all those involved in the wreath laying, and to the community members who attended The Prospect on the day itself.
The RBL also organised with St Mary’s Church, a special ceremony at The Prospect on the Thursday before Remembrance Day. This was for the Korean Veterans, and for the Chelsea Pensioners. My thanks to all involved, particularly the Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, and the Head Teacher, staff and the Year 6 pupils from Ashfield Park Primary School, who sang so well at the event.
It was also interesting to note from the memorial grave, that the Chelsea Pensioners, from the Royal Hospital Chelsea, which is a retirement home for 300 veterans, were evacuated to Rudhall Manor and Morastan House near Ross-on-Wye during the Second World War. During this period, those who sadly died were buried locally in the Ross churchyard.
Thanks finally to the Ross Gazette for publicising all the Remembrance Day events and activities - much appreciated.
