Whitchurch CE Primary School has been congratulated by Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP, a minister for Education, having been placed in the top 2% of schools nationally in terms of the progress that children make in reading, writing and maths.

Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP said: “I would like to congratulate you, your staff and your pupils on the very high level of progress that pupils in your school have made in their reading, writing and mathematics.”

He added: “This means that your school is amongst the top 2% of schools in England in terms of the progress your pupils make between key stage 1 and the end of key stage 2.

“Thank you for your hard work and professionalism in producing such high standards and congratulations again to you and your staff for all you have achieved.”

The headtecher, Claire Mckeown, said that the outstanding achievement is testament to the love the children at Whitchurch have for learning, and their determination to be the very best that they can be. She said:?“Being so well taught and cared for by excellent teachers and teaching assistants ensures that every child has the chance to thrive.

“Working together with supportive parents and the community, the school is a true family, making children feel secure and confident.

“Creating an exciting curriculum which includes forest school, eco schools, a focus on the arts and sport, gives children the opportunity to excel not only in reading, writing and maths, but as individuals.”

One of the school’s newest pupils said: “I am already enjoying all of the activities that happen here.

“I am really proud to come to Whitchurch.”
