New Ross-on-Wye Mayor, Jane Roberts, and her consort, Chris Bartrum, recently visited Headteacher Nigel Griffiths at John Kyrle High School, where they were introduced to the school’s newly-elected head boy, Ben Thorne, and head girl, Kate Ormiston.
Mr Griffiths, Councillor Roberts and Councillor Bartrum discussed the many ways the school could support both mayoral and town council activities from the start of the autumn term in September. Ideas included supporting the Mayor’s charity, designing a Christmas card and getting pupil involvement in activities, including supporting environmental awareness. There will also be opportunities for students to visit the mayoral chambers and discuss thoughts with the town council.
Mr Griffiths showed the visitors around the school and said how delighted he was to catch up with them. Both Councillor Roberts and Councillor Bartrum had been governors at John Kyrle and Mr Griffiths said he appreciated their on-going support.
Councillor Roberts said: “Chris and I are delighted to visit John Kyrle. It provided both our daughters with an excellent education. We are equally pleased to see it continue to go from strength to strength.”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
