Bridstow CE Primary School in Ross-on-Wye is celebrating the completion of a brand new outdoor learning classroom on their school field. Following some excellent fundraising over the past few years, Bridstow School PTFA have funded the project to enable children in the school to have even more opportunities when learning outdoors – an ongoing focus for the school over the past two years.

The structure was built from all local cut trees and was constructed by ‘Rooted Forest Schools’, a local company that supports the training and delivery of outdoor learning in many Herefordshire schools. Dan Brearey, Headteacher of Bridstow School, commented: “We are so pleased with the finished outdoor learning building – it has already exceeded our expectations in its quality and use of local materials and trades people. The building of this structure gives our children even more scope to develop their learning in an outdoor context – whilst ensuring that they have the highest quality educational experiences in the process. I am very grateful to our school PTFA for all their hard work over the past few years fundraising for this worthwhile project. We now have to decide what to name it and how best to celebrate its opening in the next few weeks – no doubt our school council will have plenty of suggestions!”

This is another positive chapter as Bridstow Primary School continues to move from strength to strength with recent ‘Good’ judgements from Ofsted (Sept 2016) and SIAMS – the Religious Education inspection (November 2017), children get a well-balanced and inclusive curriculum that offers a wide variety of high quality experiences within the school’s modern building and grounds.
