Mike Ebert brought in the above picture to the Ross Gazette offices of Class 1 at Ross County Primary School, which was located on Cantilupe Road.

The photo, taken in 1957, shows the children who would have been the youngest in the school. Mr Ebert told the Ross Gazette that there were two year groups that year, and he has a photograph of the other children. He hopes to bring in that photo to share in the not too distant future.

He said that Mr Smith, the Headmaster and Mrs Price, the form teacher are the two adults pictured with the children.

The school was built as a Board or Council School in 1874. It was extended in 1889. It then closed as a Secondary School in 1953, when the John Kyrle High School opened. It then became Ross-on-Wye’s primary school until it was pulled down in 1969.
