The pupils, staff and governors at Llangrove CE Academy were in a fantastic mood on Monday when they discovered that they have been chosen by national magazine, Tatler, as one of the top ten state primary schools.

The school was nominated last year by a parent and then the Deputy Headteacher, Sarah Dean, along with other members of staff, had to complete an in-depth questionnaire about all aspects of the school. This included such questions as what the school is most proud of and any ways the pupils have achieved in music or art.

They managed to post the form before the deadline but then heard nothing more until they were given the news on Monday.

Chair of the governors, Roberta Woodcock was so thrilled she contacted the Ross Gazette. Many of the children only discovered their new found fame when the Gazette photographer arrived first thing on Tuesday morning to take a picture of the whole school.

Llangrove may be a small school, as the magazine article says, it is: “A teeny-tiny school with just over 50 pupils in three classes - but golly, it’s a good one.”

The nomination explained how, when the parent looked around Llangrove, the children were coming in from break and one handed her a flower on her way past, which she said: ‘was pretty compelling.’

The Deputy Head is described as ’lovely and very down to earth’, and the mother also referred to the two ’fantastic’ male teachers, Ed Fox and Simon Preddy.

The school also received its place among the top ten due to the focus on good manners, pupil behaviour was rated Outstanding by Ofsted, and strong links with the church and the local community.

Tatler was also impressed with the IT provision in each classroom. Pupils praised the after-school sports clubs, swimming lessons, theatre trips and an annual whole-school expedition.
