A former John Kyrle High School pupil, Dr Duncan Alston was guest speaker at this year’s celebration of pupil’s achievements, which was also an opportunity for the school to pay tribute to former students, staff and governors.
Dr Alston was a former Head Boy who, through excellent examination results, gained a place to read Medical Science at Corpus Christi, Oxford.
He spoke in glowing terms about his experiences at the Ross-on-Wye school and said he was very proud to continue his association with John Kyrle. He said the success of students in all aspects of school life was commendable and they were to be congratulated, and he advised students to take every opportunity offered to them.
He added that his academic studies needed to go alongside the practicalities and inter-personal skills of the job of a doctor in a busy London Hospital. Dr Alston thanked the school for all the help it had given him in preparing him for a job he truly loves.
Amongst the many prizes awarded to students for their success in all aspects of school life, Lucy Young and Elin Havard each received the highly prestigious Pride of John Kyrle Award.
