Pupils at Garway Primary School spent the week experiencing all things scientific in celebration of British Science Week.

The children were able to get involved in a wide range of science based activities, including photography workshops, lambing live, looking at the science of sports and health, and looking at the effects of music on the brain. There was even a family quiz event.

Garway School is also affiliated with the Bat Detective Program; a Zooniverse Project in which the Garway pupils listen for bats’ distinctive echolocation calls in audio recordings. Monitoring the status of bat populations can help tell Scientists about the health of a natural environment as a whole. A local bat handler visited the school during British Science Week and brought in live bats. The children learnt more about bat biodiversity.

Miss Jones, the Headteacher at Garway, told the Ross Gazette: “Science is a natural subject for children because they are naturally inquisitive, and there are lots of budding scientists at our School”.

Garway Primary School is affiliated with the British Science Association and offers weekly Science Clubs for its pupils, in which they do Crest Star activities in association with BSA.
