Students at Ashfield Park Primary have been given new bikes thanks to fundraising organised by the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association.

PTFA chairman Dan Goodhead visited the school on the morning of Wednesday, March 4 as reception and nursery students had the opportunity to practice their cycling skills on the new bikes.

Fundraising for the new bikes began in October 2019, with the PTFA arranging an autumn disco and Christmas fayre.

The events helped raise a grand total of £1,399.86 with the proceeds going towards the purchase of the bikes.

Speaking about the new bikes, nursery teacher Cathy Symonds said: “We are very happy, the children are very excited to use them, with the nursery pupils using them most days.

“The school has wanted something like this for a while as it really helps build social skills and there are obviously great physical benefits as well. As these bikes will be used for reception and nursery students, we chose a range of bikes, both two-wheel and three-wheel, that would be suitable for both age groups, and provide a challenge.

“We are very thankful and appreciative of the PTFA’s wonderful support in helping us get these new bikes.”
