Once again, it has been an exciting, busy term at Lea CE Primary School.
During the first half of the term they underwent an OFSTED inspection, the outcome of which was extremely positive. The school is pleased that Lea CE Primary School and Pre-School remains a ‘Good’ school. The report describes the school as “a happy and vibrant place for pupils to learn and grow”.
Children from Year 3 - 6 have had also an exciting time taking part in residential visits.
Year 5 recently went to stay near Lichfield at Whitemoor Lakes Activity Centre for three days. During their stay they participated in a host of both wet and dry activities. These ranged from raft building and canoeing to fencing and high ropes.
Following a very successful SAT’s week, Year 6 went on a 5-day visit to Liverpool. During their stay they toured Anfield Stadium, visited the Beatles Museum, went on the ‘Liverpool Eye’ and had a trip on the Mersey Ferry.
Years 3 and 4 also spent a wonderful three days at the Wilderness Centre near Mitcheldean, taking part in a wide range of activities including archery, wall-climbing and orienteering.
Lea School also enjoyed another highly successful Village Fete on July 7th. A highlight of the day was the exhibition of artwork created by all the pupils at Lea, in the village hall. The theme this year was the natural world and all who attended agreed that the standard of work was outstanding.
Pupils from Years 4 and 5 had great success with their entries for the Mitcheldean Poetry and Young Story-tellers Competition recently.
Daniel Welfare was commended for his poem, and his, as well as the poems of four other Year 4 pupils (Alex Whittington, Jason Fanshawe, Isla Allen and Harriet Orme) will be entered into this year’s ‘Junior Forest Bard’ competition.
The winning story-tellers were Evie Marshall, who has been short-listed for the competition; and Oliver Stevens and Bronwen Williams, whose stories were both highly commended by the judges.
The Digital Leaders at Lea have also been working to produce a film for the Herefordshire Schools ‘Life through a Lens’ project. The focus for the project this year was the work of Herefordshire photographer, Derek Evans. The children chose ‘Sports Day through the Years at Lea’ as their theme. They were very excited to attend the Film Premiere Awards Ceremony recently at the Odeon Cinema in Hereford, where they had the opportunity to present their own film and to watch screenings of all the other films.
The Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils presented their end of term production, ‘Friendly Matches’, a musical with a very topical theme - football. All of the pupils involved worked tremendously hard to put together a real show stopper of a production. The school would like to thank Zoe Hutton, their Drama director.
