THE New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering welcomed a royal visitor to its Skylon Campus in Hereford on Tuesday.
The Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by the Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire Edward Harleymet NMITE’s president and chief executive James Newby, current students and those who had recently entered the workplace.
The visit of Prince Edward provided an opportunity for him to get hands-on view to NMITE’s unique approach to learning where students from Ross-on-Wye are in attendance.
Mr Newby said: “The Duke has seen how NMITE’s has become a transformative force in UK university and technical education, redefining engineering and construction training on a national scale.”
During the visit, the Duke met foundation year students, along with MEng (Hons) Integrated Engineering (Accelerated) students, some of who showcased their engineering and technology projects.
Before unveiling a plaque at the Skylon Campus, which was completed in 2021, the Duke congratulated all the students who had recently graduated and acknowledged that they had gone on to bigger and better things.
The Duke said: “This is a huge relief to all those who help found this NMITE College. I wish all those currently studying here good luck in the courses as an ambitious project such as this, always takes time to come to fruition.
“This is an exciting, but different in the way in which people are being taught this type of technology.”
