Man fined for assaulting another in Ross

A ROSS-ON-WYE man has been ordered to pay a total of £922 in fines and court costs after admitting assaulting a man in the town in May 2024.

Ryan Jones, aged 31, of Market Place, Ross, pleaded guilty on the day of trial on December 23 at Hereford Magistrates Court to assaulting Paul Sosna, causing him actual bodily harm on May 15, 2024.

The magistrates fined Jones £373 after accepting his late guilty plea and ordered him to pay court costs of £400, a mandatory surcharge of £149. The magistrates did not impose a compensation order due to the very minor injury sustained.

Jones has until January 20, 2025, to pay the first instalment of £100 and pay similar amounts monthly thereafter.

Motorist fined for speeding

A LOCAL motorist has been fined 269 and had three penalty points imposed on his driving licence for speeding in Worcester.

Bennett Smith, 45 of Willow Walk, Lea was caught travelling in a Nissan vehicle on restricted road, namely Tybridge Street, Worcester at a speed exceeding 30 miles per hour.

Smith pleaded guilty to the offence at Worcester Magistrates' Court. Prosecutor David Whittaker explained to the court that Smith’s speeding was captured by an automatic camera device.

As well as being fined, Smith was ordered to pay court costs of £110 and a mandatory surcharge of £108.

Woman’s assault results in unpaid work

A ROSS-ON-WYE woman has had assaulted another woman has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.

Lorraine Evans, 55, of Three Crosses, pleaded guilty at Hereford Magistrates’ Court to assaulting another woman in Gloucester Road in Ross, on February 18, last year, causing her actual bodily harm.

The magistrates imposed an 18-month community order on Evans requiring her to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and attend 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

The justices ordered that Evans pay her victim £50 compensation, court costs of and a mandatory surcharge of £114.
