A giant strawberry, weighing 90 grams, was picked on a South Herefordshire fruit farm, owned by Anthony Snell. The farm, A.J & C.I Snell, is located at Harewood End, near Ross-on-Wye.
On Friday, June 17th, Anthony tweeted: "Wow! Giant 90g #Strawberry picked today! @driscollsberry @berrygardensltd @britishberries. Can anyone beat it?"
Anthony told the Ross Gazette: "It was due to good growing skills! The taste is unaffected and still great! All ready for Wimbledon!"
Koji Nakao from Fukuoka, Japan, holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest strawberry. The strawberry weighed 250g, with an approximate height of 8cm, length of 12cm, and circumference of 25 to 30cm. It is the largest and heaviest strawberry ever recorded. This record-breaking fruit was a mutation, after multiple berries were grown and naturally fused together to form one giant, super strawberry.
The previous record for the worlds largest strawberry on record was grown in Kent by a G. Anderson in 1983, which weighed 231g.Mr Snell's giant strawberry could set the record for the largest ever grown in Herefordshire. Have you grown a giant fruit or vegetable in recent years?
