Two long-serving school governors at Walford Primary School were honoured at a special assembly on Friday, November 17th.
Mrs Elizabeth Boynton and Mrs Joyce Thomas MBE DL were presented with flowers after they unveiled plaques with their names on them, which will be placed in the Hall and the new Lodge.
Walford Primary School children hosted the celebration assembly, which was followed by a delicious Afternoon Tea to honour the long service, dedication and commitment shown by the two very special school governors.
The whole school community wanted to show their respect and thanks to Mrs Boynton and Mrs Thomas, who between them have supported the work of the school for almost sixty years.
Pupils in Year 6 and the school choir shone throughout the assembly, which was made all the more memorable with the unveiling of plaques by Lord and Lady Lisvane.
Daisy Richardson and Alasdair Harrington, President and Vice President of the School Council, said, “This has been a very special day and we are so glad that Mrs Boynton and Mrs Thomas have enjoyed it.”
Mr Paul Deneen OBE JP DL, Chair of the Board of Governors, said, “It was such a great pleasure to listen to the pupils’ views at the excellent special assembly, which recognised and celebrated the service given by Liz Boynton and Joyce Thomas MBE DL, last week.
“Both Governors have made a superb contribution over many years, and continue to give distinguished service to the Board of Governors at Walford Primary School. Lord and Lady Lisvane were very complimentary indeed about the school and used the occasion to specially thank Liz and Joyce regarding their nearly 60 year service to the pupils at Walford.
“The whole celebration was enjoyed by all. It was great to see Governors, and members of the local community supporting this very special event.”
He added, “My thanks also to the Head Teacher, Louise George, for her inspirational leadership at the school, leading a very committed and dedicated team of staff who make the school a happy place, where the pupils experience ‘Learning and Enjoyment - Every Child, Every Opportunity, Every Day.’ In addition, we are also most fortunate in having a great Parent Teacher and Friends Association who support the work of the school. This wonderful event also provided an opportunity to thank Michelle Lawson for her valuable contribution to the school over many years.”
